| NoticeI'm currently not accepting new account sign-ups, due to lack of funding. This is definitely not the decision I wanted to make especially after 3 years, but due to the circumstances, and now no longer having a permanent place for the server, this is what needed to happen. If things change in the future (and I plan on them changing), I will be opening this back up to new accounts. Another options I'm currently pursuing is possibly having a contest of sorts, where the best 5 websites or so would win hosting, and maybe the winner would get a free domain name too, or something along those lines. I'm currently seeking sponsorship for such a contest. If you are a business that would be willing to sponsor such an event in exchange for your company's logo, and a link to your website on the pages regarding then contest, then please e-mail me at brad@musatcha.com. Thanks. Server Status6-04-2004 10:34 PM - Yesterday was pretty cool. Server died the same day my new server showed up. Put in the new server last night. Everything was working great until this afternoon when everything became very slow. I went ahead and fired up the old server, and am running off of that until I can figure out what is going on. So in other words, nothing new. But we're one step closer to php. 03-28-2004 5:45 PM - Moved servers to new location. Back up and running as of 8:30 PM. If some users are still having problems, it's likely because their DNS stuff is cached. 02-05-2004 10:45 AM - Lost power for 3.5 minutes when the meter on the side of the building 'sploded. Everything is up and running though just fine. Free Web HostingMusatcha.com is now offering free web hosting, with no banner ads, to anybody that wants it. Why in the world would I want to do something like this?
Here's my disclaimer, to help clarify a few things: I am not responsible for what content you host on my servers. I don't offer any warranties or anything like that, on any part of the service. Whatever you do, DO NOT post anything illegal, and DO NOT post any adult oriented materials. Server Upgrade Funding GoalMany many many people have a need for php, but after checking things out, enabling php on the current server would present a huge cpu load, that would slow things down to an unacceptable level. Because of this, I'm looking at building a new server. Here's the plan: For $200 [yep, that's it!] I can build a brand new server that would meet the needs of this free hosting service for a long long time. How can you help? Donate money! This project is entirely funded by my own personal funds [which are non-existent at the moment], donations, and advertising revenue. This is not a very expensive operation, so every buck makes a huge difference! Here's where we are on the goal:

How Do I Sign Up?I do not have an automated sign up system. (It's a hassle, and doing it manually seems to be keeping warez users off the server. Woot.) You need to e-mail me at brad@musatcha.com with what you want your username and password to be. As soon as I get that from you, I'll create your account. To cancel or change your account info, you need to e-mail me as well. FAQQ: Why is this FAQ before all the tech info? A: It's my lame attempt at getting people to actually read the FAQ
before bothering me with questions that are plainly answered. Q: I have a domain name, can I use it? A: Uh huh. Sign up for a free account on http://www.zoneedit.com
and use it's forwarding feature. They have a nice service, I highly
recommend them. Q: Do you allow businesses to use this service? A: YES! However, I do not offer any guarantees with this service, in regards to uptime and/or security. Use at your own risk. I'd STRONGLY recommend you take advantages of the hosting services provided by DataCorp of Farmington Inc. I have yet to find a better ISP out there.
A: I use the honor system here. I do not have anything in place to limit space, other than the physical limitations of hard drives. If for some reason you need more than 50 or 60 megs or so, contact me first so I know about it. This is not intended to be a place to host your DVD collection. If your actual site requires a lot of space, I'll still gladly host it for you, I just need to know ahead of time. Don't abuse this!
A: As much as you need.
A: Nope. However, I'm currently working on support PHP, and MySQL. Before I do this though, I'll need some more CPU power. I'm working on it though.
A: Sure. You need to use a .htpasswd file. Go here:
http://www.euronet.nl/~arnow/htpasswd/, fill in the appropriate info, copy
and paste the line it gives you into notepad, or another plain-text editor.
Name the file .htpasswd. (Note: Make sure there isn't a .txt on the
end of it or something like that. Also note the dot. .htpasswd is
the file name.) Upload this into the folder you wish to password protect.
Q: I get Access Denied when going to my site, now what? A: Oops, I forgot to chmod your home dir, contact me and I'll fix it for you.
A: PLEASE tell everybody you know that needs a web host. Help improve the internet, promote freedom of speech, and get everybody you know on this thing.
A: Not a thing, except a bit more traffic to my site, and the pure satisfaction of helping the internet community in general.
A: You bet. However, since this effectively hides any reference to Musatcha.com, I'd appreciate a link, shoutout, or just tell your friends. This is by no means required though! Just suggested.
A: I don't require ads, that's the whole point of this service, but if you wanted to help me out, here's a couple logos you can use:
Tech InfoFTP Address: ftp://ftp.musatcha.com HTTP Address: http://yourusername.musatcha.com Don't understand what FTP is? PageResource.com has a nice tutorial. DonationsAs of right now, I'm trying to come up with some cash to pay for college, so if you like this free web hosting stuff, and it's really helped you out, and you happen to be a very kind and giving person, then I'd happily accept your donation. Also, donations help me pay for faster servers. If I can get some faster servers, I'll be enabling php. Donations can be made via PayPal, just send it to brad@musatcha.com. Donations are not required, and I don't beg for money, so this section ends here. |
Musatcha is pronounced moo-SA-cha. I have no
idea where it originated.
